Musuem of Village Life in Bran

Discover the Bran Village Museum, a charming cultural treasure located in the heart of Romania. It is located in the courtyard of the famous Bran Castle, at 28 General Traian Moșoiu Street. This open-air museum highlights the evolution of traditional rural life and folk architecture specific to the Bran area. It is a window into the rich and diverse past of the local communities. Since 1961, the Brabant Village Museum has been depicting the main types of households, dwellings and outbuildings, with an emphasis on the ancestral crafts of wood and wool processing.

The passion for tradition is reflected in every corner of the museum, where visitors can admire authentic pastoral buildings such as hodăi and hodăițe. Traditional peasant houses built of wood, with interiors adorned with colourful, hand-woven cloths. These spaces faithfully recreate life in the past. They highlight the basic occupations of the inhabitants: raising sheep, cattle, working in the forest and farming.

The museum is not just a place to preserve the past. It is a vibrant space that aims to educate and inspire by showcasing the simple but profound way of life of Bran’s communities. The ensemble comprises 18 monuments of folk architecture, each telling a story of a part of the history and traditions of this picturesque area.

A visit to the Bran Village Museum can be perfectly complemented by a stay at the Refugiul Domnitei Guesthouse. We offer comfortable accommodation and genuine hospitality, just minutes from this oasis of culture and history.
