Tâmpa Mountain

Discover Mount Tâmpa and Tâmpa Nature Reserve

Mount Tâmpa, the emblem of Brasov, rises about 400 metres above it. With a nature reserve of 150 ha, it is a place of rare beauty and an oasis of tranquillity.
This mountain is home to unique Romanian endemic species, such as the voinic’s cross and the lady’s slipper orchid. The diverse fauna and flora make it a major point of interest for nature lovers.
The northern slope of the Tâmpe is covered by a forest rich in valuable species, both ornamentally and scientifically. Beech, hornbeam and oak are just a few of them.
On the southern slope, climatic conditions have created a steppe-like habitat where attempts at reforestation have not been successful. Here, sun and drought dominate the landscape.
Mount Tâmpa is also an ideal place to observe birds, mammals and insects. Butterflies, in particular, make up almost 35% of Romania’s species.

How do I get to Mount Tâmpa?

To get to the top of Mount Tâmpe, you can choose to hike for about 45 minutes or take the cable car, which offers a panoramic view of the city. The cable car operates from Tuesday to Sunday, with a specific schedule for ascents and descents.

On the mountain are the remains of a Dacian fortress, as well as other medieval and modern historical evidence. This cultural mix adds a special value to the place.

For those who prefer a more urban walk, the Promenada Sub Tâmpa offers a pleasant stroll that takes you past the ancient walls of Brasov. Here you can also visit a series of medieval bastions, thematically arranged. It’s a perfect way to admire the nearby mountain, and especially a panoramic view of the historic centre of Brasov.

Located right at the foot of the mountain, on the promenade, Restaurant Sub Tâmpa offers a neo-traditional gastronomic experience in a unique setting. Delicious cocktails and reinterpreted traditional recipes are complemented by the magnificent view.

Mount Tâmpa is a destination not to be missed when visiting Brasov. Whether you are passionate about history, nature or just want to relax, it offers something for everyone. To visit the entire Brasov – Bran – Moeciu area, Pension Refugiul Domniței is a perfect accommodation option in Bran.
